This is what I would do, you have two choices of ferry operator to cross the channel P&O or Brittany Ferries both depart from Portsmouth in the UK. I would catch the evening ferry so as myself and my family can have a nice meal ,enjoy the on board entertainment, followed by a good nights sleep and arrive in Le Harve or Caen refreshed and ready to begin your holiday in France. Which ever operator you choose arrives at your chosen port around 7.00 am giving you all day to have a nice leisurely drive to the Loire Valley.
